Nike Air Jordan 4 (IV) - These Nike Air Jordan’s featured a very prominent Jumpman logo on the tongue and the design was anything but normal at the time. They were very unique and forced people to use their imagination and creative side to see the beauty in these shoes. We may now look back at these shoes and appreciate them for the creativity and innovation, but at the time a lot of people had sore eyes from looking at them.

Jordan wore these shoes during the memorable Eastern Conference battle against the Detroit Pistons whom had Isiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman, John Salley, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer and many other notables. Dennis Rodman would later on become Michael’s team mate at the Chicago Bulls, but the 88-89 season Dennis Rodman was far from being Michael Jordan’s friend. Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer used physical fouls which would now be considered flagrant fouls regularly to break down Jordan’s physical ability to get to the hoop.

Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bull’s eventually lost in the Eastern Conference semi-finals to the Pistons, but Jordan later explained it was a learning experience for him. Finesse and layups don’t win championships, Jordan learned, in order to win a NBA championship, he needed to get stronger in his ability to combat tough play. The Detroit Pistons went on to win the NBA championship.

The Nike Air Jordan 4’s were originally released in 88-89, but were then retro’d in 1995, 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2005 in various color-ways. To this day, it is considered one of the best Nike Air Jordan’s ever released for both fashion and performance. Even though this season came to end prematurely for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, Michael himself had a great season. Some of his accomplishments during this season were; 7 consecutive triple doubles, 10,000th career points, the very memorable winning shot against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals to win the game 101-100, NBA scoring title, All NBA first defensive team, all NBA first team, scored career high 69 points and on a personal note he also got married to Juanita Vanoy in a Las Vegas Chapel.
